"Many people, especially ignorant people, want to punish you for speaking the truth, for being correct, for being you. Never apologize for being correct, or for being years ahead of your time. If you’re right and you know it, speak your mind. Speak your mind. Even if you are a minority of one, the truth is still the truth."
"It didn’t make you noble to step away from something that wasn’t working, even if you thought you were the reason for the malfunction. Especially then. It just made you a quitter. Because if you were the problem, chances were you could also be the solution. The only way to find out was to take another shot."
"We tend to be blind to our own assumptions when we are locked inside them. One way of breaking out of this prison of perception is by contrasting our assumptions with those of other cultures."
"To my spiritual friend, yes, you … I’d like to say that, when we have our unintentional banter over matters of our daily lives, I feel that they are trivial things. And that, behind all that we perceive are graces from an unseen being who deserve our acknowledgment and our gratitude. Because we are walking on the same road, I feel that I’m never alone and that the eccentricity in me are just words. This vivifies our juncture. We are not human beings having spiritual experience. We are spiritual beings having a human experience."
"‘Experience,’ which is just a euphemism for heartache and heartbreak, failed love and false promises, for every time you told yourself ‘This is the real thing’ and ‘Finally I’ve found my way home’ only to end up lost in a muck or lying across rickety train tracks, praying for deliverance and not knowing if that would mean getting run over or being spared; ‘experience,’ which is a neutral word that most people know only means something good on a resume, a term that in the rest of life is more like a criminal rap sheet full of mishaps that cannot be expunged, this indelible quality made more frightening because there are no authorities keeping track, no one is forcing you to remember these things, it is all your own fault, it is only you who cannot forget; ‘experience,’ which is supposed to be the playground and peep show and life-size labyrinth of adolescence, which can, when it occurs at the right time in life.. if it is delivered in moderate and judicious measure.. make you a more capable lover and friend, spouse and partner."
"To live is to risk dying. To hope is to risk despair. To try is to risk failure. But risks must be taken because the greatest hazard in life is to risk nothing. The person who risks nothing, does nothing, has nothing and is nothing. They may avoid suffering and sorrow, but they cannot feel, change, grow, love, live. Chained by their certitudes, they are as a slave, they have forfeited their freedom. Only a person who risks is free."
Even when reading is impossible, the presence of books acquired produces such an ecstasy that the buying of more books than one can read is nothing less than the soul reaching towards infinity… We cherish books even if unread, their mere presence exudes comfort, their ready access reassurance.
Recollections, Rants, Raves and Reflection of a nurse who happens to know something about the law and has great interest in anything Asian. I admit kdramas have great power on me. In addition, dog ear, broken spines, side notes and colorful highlights - all boils down to my being a bibliophile.
